My first week in school!

So. I've just completed my first week at a new school. I'm embarking on a whole new road trip to Tertiary education. (I think some of you might call it college or Pre Uni). Over here, we call it Junior College or Polytechnic. I'm in Ngee Ann Polytechnic and can I just say, this school is already bringing out the best in me. This school is my dream school (in Singapore) and I'm really very privileged to have secured a spot here.

There are 9 different academic schools on campus. I belong to the best school ;). SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES, or HMS for short. :D. In HMS, we focus more on the humanitarian courses, such as psychology and early childhood. I'm studying ECH, which stands for Early Childhood Education. No regrets, ever, taking this diploma! I know for some of my coursemates, this wasn't their first choice. But it was mine, and I had to fight tooth and nail to get in .

We started school on the 21st of April with a three day orientation! All the freshmen in HMS were split into 4 different tribes, then 13 different sub-tribes per tribe. We didn't get to meet our coursemates until the fourth day. For the first three days, we bonded with other HMS freshies from different courses. One of my best mates from this orientation is in Business and Social Enterprise :)

For three days, our student leaders brought us around the school and we had games and cheer-off competitions vs other tribes! XMEN ROGUE PRIDE HEHEHEHE! >). On our third day, our whole cohort went out of school to do a fund raising for Beyond Social Services. It was great fun even though my subtribe kept getting kicked out of places and we were under the scorching hot sun most of the time. We sculpted balloon flowers to give away to people who donated. (well, my subtribe mates made them. I just helped get donations. I can't sculpt bloody balloon flowers for NUTS.) The HMS freshies raised $16,000 in all. To be honest, it isn't really about how much you raise. True, the amount is relatively important. But I think the most important thing I took home that day was the knowledge and the feeling of satisfaction that we managed to help out someone in need and also bring a :) to someone's face ^.^

On the 24th, which was yesterday, we met our classmates for the very first time. Initially, I knew two  people from my Secondary School who were in the same class as I was in (T01) but I hadn't been really close to them then.

Au contraire, I met this amazing chica who share the same name as me. Except her name is spelt with a ''k'' in Nikole. We were introducing ourselves to the others by the different letter in our name. I'm the one with C and she's K. We just instantly clicked. It was so amazing! She took almost the same subjects as I did in Sec Sch, took Pure Literature, hates math, is a nail-and-shoes girl like yours truly, and only wants to visit USA for the Harry Potter theme park!!! ^.^. We were fangirling about Draco Malfoy on the bus to our industrial visit, Soka Kindergarten. While our classmates were sleeping or listening to music, we were the only two idiots laughing like mad! xD

During our portfolio building workshop, we insta-clicked with 3 other people; a girl and two boys. (BTW, there are only 9 boys in my course and a 130 odd girls!). One of the boys is my chica Piper's ex-classmate. Small world! We were smuggling sweets under the table in the lecture theatre and laughing about one of the guy's light brown-orangey hair. Amazing people<3

Ngee Ann offers over 120 different CCAs (Co-Circular Activity) such as life-saving club, table tennis, the Buddhist Society and tons more. Its impossible to list them all, especially since new CCAs set up by students keep popping up every year! I wanted to join hip hop, but they have practice every day till 9.30 :(. My other choice was dancesport, where they'll accept anyone with no dance experience (namely, me. Haha) and teach them the ways of salsa and cha cha. It sounds realllyyy good! I wanted to try something completely different. Something the old me would have never dared try. My third choice was NP voices, Choir and Acapella. I'm quite keen on their acapella group but I don't know :/. I quit choir in primary school just to re-join choir....? Hmm...

I honestly feel that NP is bringing out the best in me. Its an amazing feeling. I want to try things I've never tried before. I want to stand out, be a different person. Ask any of my Sec sch mates and they'd describe me as 'shy, quiet, bookworm', But here, my friends described me as outgoing and daring. That's quite a wide gap and I'm proud of who I'm becoming. No more hiding in the shadows for this girl! New year, new school, new me<3
